Solar Power for GPS Matamaka

E-mail Print PDF
29 June 2012 High Commissioner Dr Jonathan Austin visited GPS Matamaka in Vava'u on 21 June to handover TOP$11,246.99 worth of solar power equipment. The primary school now has solar power for lighting, computers and a photocopier.

The project to give GPS Matamaka solar power was initiated by a visiting yachtie, who donated much of the equipment himself. But after some of it went missing in Nuku'alofa the project was left incomplete. Allan Bowe of Mounu Island Resort and Whale Watch Vava'u approached the High Commission on the school's behalf for funding to complete the project. The New Zealand donation came from the High Commissioner's Head of Mission Fund.
