Lord Nuku won By Election for ‘Eua's Noble Representative

02 Aug. 2012. Lord Nuku has been announced as the new Representative of the Nobles for the Electoral District of ‘Eua, after the conclusion of a by-election held at the Palace Office in Nuku'alofa and Government offices in the outer islands.

With his triumphant win, Lord Nuku returns to Parliament this year to fill the seat for ‘Eua's Nobles Representative, once held by the former Speaker Hon. Lasike.

Thirteen other Hereditary Title estate holders eligible candidates for the ‘Eua Nobles Electoral District By-Election were the ‘Ahome'e, Ata, Fielakepa, Fohe, Kalaniuvalu, Lasike, Ma'afu, Tu'ivakano, Tungi, Vaea, Vaha'i, Ve'ehala. Three other Life Peerages Ramsay Dalgety, Tevita Poasi Tupou and Feleti Sevele registered to vote in the By Elections.

Three of these Nobles, Tu'ivakano, Vaea and Ma'afu are already members of Parliament and held Ministerial portfolios.

Lord Nuku was former noble's representative for ‘Eua for 3 consecutive terms, was sworn in at Parliament at 2pm this afternoon, when the proceedings of the Legislative Assembly continues in Nuku'alofa.

Lord Nuku once held Ministerial portfolios for Police, Prisons and Fire Services in 2005 and later Minister for Works in 2006.
